One of the best ways to get involved and support your branch is to become a Dep Contact for your area /subject /staffroom. It is a role that requires little commitment but is a huge help to your branch and it’s committee Reps.
What is a Dept. Contact and what do they do ?
- Be the eyes and ears of their dept. to feedback to the committee any issues in their area as appropriate.
- Distribute and keep posters and recruitment materials up to date in their area.
- Speak to any new members of staff about joining the union
- Welcome any new members as advised by the committee
- Be the general “face” of the union in their area for both new and also existing members able to advise who to contact for support (but not carry out any casework)
- Those that are confident to do so could also hold informal meetings of members in their area that builds a community that others will want to join.
You can do as much or as little as you are comfortable doing. It is a great starting point if you are thinking about getting more involved in our branch/union, but there is no pressure to get involved any further then being a Department Contact which will already be a huge help to us!
Please contact the branch if you can volunteer at either Campus or want more info.-
